I love to snuggle!
Rosie..... is another of Nature's orphans. Dee Hatfield found her and a sibling under her dock. Dee believes their mother was killed by a car on the road in front of her house. Dee was unable to save the sibling and had to give Rosie up because she was leaving town for several weeks. Since no Vet or shelter will accept Raccoons, someone was needed to take over her care. Rosie is in extremely good health thanks to Dee and her daughters.

"I need a bigger box."
Rosie is quite different from our other raccoons. She's short and her coloring is much lighter and more toward brown. She's a hand full already and love to be held. Note that her nose is short and rounded like a puppy's. As she grows older, her nose will become more elongated and pointed.

"My mama doesn't have feathers."
Since she's so much younger than the other's, we'll have to keep her in a separate box. We can't put her with Maggie because she's older and may hurt the younger baby. For now she'll have to be happy with a little orange teddy bear as a sleeping companion and playmate.

Progress Update

4th Week in The Nursery - Age: 9-10 Weeks - 17" Nose to Tail

Rosie's facial features are starting to take on the more pointed nose appearance of the adult raccoon. She is at the curious stage.. Wants to see, feel, smell, lick everything. She is completely spoiled and requires full, undivided attention, any time she's out of her pen... She plays well with the younger Maggie but isn't quite sure what to make of the latest addition to the Nursery....

Can't You See We're Playing? Let me see what you've got there. Oh goodie, more toys..

8th Week in The Nursery - Age: 13-14 Weeks - 20" Nose to Tail

Rosie's really starting to come alive now... She can't hold still and snuggles are over... No time for that... She's discovered where the water in the bathtub comes from and there's no way to keep her and Maggie in the pet carrier anymore. Guess we'll move into the outside pen with the older ones.

Officer, I didn't do it.... I know there's water up there..

11th Week in The Nursery - Age: 16-17 Weeks - 22-24" Nose to Tail

Rosie's is now keeping up with the older kits. We have started introducing her to the wild and letting her out to run in the woods. We still try to be sure she is in the pen in the evenings because she is still just a little to young to take care of herself. Won't be much longer now till she starts looking for her a place to stay in the woods.... Time seems to fly by and we will miss her when she starts staying in the woods... I've only got one left that is still truly a baby and that's Maggie...

I'm Bananas for you baby.. I'm gettin up in the world...
